Walking to school at 5 – by DM

When I was five years old I went to the school, St Andrew’s School, as it was at the junction at the bottom of Lock Road on Ham Common opposite the pond from five and apparently on the second day I demanded that I walk down there and walk back again myself and of course in those days there was … I came home for lunch.  I walked home for lunch and walked back again in the afternoon.  From there I progressed to Mortlake Boys School because Grey Court wasn’t built and then I went on to Brooklands Technical College at Weybridge in Surrey.
