My father would be in the house on his own then.  But he wasn’t ill then, as old as he was I think he was still working in the Park, Richmond Park, he used to be the night watchman in Richmond Park, the best job he had, the last one, he loved that.

Working at the Polo stables – by EB

They both went to Meadlands and then they both went to Grey Court and when they left school they didn’t want to go to university but on their Saturdays they’d been working at Mr Walsh’s polo stables, helping to look after the horses, and they said that Mr Walsh said that we could work there after we leave school if we want to.  So they did.

Coach driver for the Bentink family – by EB

Bill’s grandfather was a coach driver for the Bentinck family at Forbes House and I’ve got a little in there about that.  He was a coachman and there is a picture of Mr Brown as a coachman for Forbes House and the Queen Mother’s sister lived at Forbes House and she died there and she’s buried in Ham churchyard.
